Taking advantage of the presence of Mr. Salvador Esteve, President of the Province of Barcelona and the Decentralization Committee of UCLG, in New York to accept the UN Public Administration Network award presented to the Province, Mr. Esteve shared the principal decentralization initiatives of the Province with the United Nations.

In a meeting held on June 25 with Francesc Claret – team leader for Central, West and North Africa of the United Nations Political Affairs Department – Mr. Esteve detailed the Provinces activities in this field in order to identify areas for common work with United Nations agencies in the Mediterranean region.

Following the recent seminar on decentralization, held in Tunisia, future initiatives of the Decentralization and Local Self-Government Committee presented were the contribution to the preparation of the Global Report on Decentralization (GOLD III) and the 3rd edition of the online course on decentralization and local governance, being held between September and December 2012.
