“10, 100, 1000 Human Rights Cities and Territories by 2030”

30.10.2022

In 2022, the UCLG-CSIPDHR launched the Global Campaign “10, 100, 1000 Human Rights Cities and Territories by 2030”. The Global Campaign aims at strengthening and amplifying the global movement of “Human Rights Cities” by gathering 1000 Cities and Territories committed to the promotion of Human Rights at local level by 2030. The Campaign also contributes to connecting local initiatives at the international level, promoting networking, solidarity and cooperation.

The Campaign is part of broader efforts undertaken by the Committee to build on the vision and experience of Cities and Territories to scale up their actions and promote structural dialogue between Local Governments and the UN, in line with the cooperation agreement signed between UCLG and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the UN (OHCHR).

The first step of the Global Campaign was to gather the first pioneer Cities and Territories on the occasion of the UCLG World Congress in Daejeon (10 – 14 October 2022). Following the great mobilization in October 2022 Daejeon, by 10 December – the International Human Rights Day – the UCLG-CSIPDHR received more than 100 pledges and more than 70  forms from Cities and Territories worldwide.
