UCLG and the city of Chefchaouen will celebrate a learning exchange in Northern Africa from the 24 – 27th of September on the issue of Local Economic Development (LED) and Decent Work in Cultural Economies of Intermediary Cities. Under the leadership of the Mayor of Chefchaouen, Morocco, the aim of this workshop is to share valuable knowledge and experiences on the development of integrated rural-urban strategies, strategic involvement in cultural economies, heritage, and food production and markets; emphasizing the development of urban policies for economic development that respond to rural potential and needs.
Participants will present the practical cases of their cities, drawing on context and experiences using indicators.
The sessions will discuss the position papers and the roadmap of Local and Regional Governments regarding the implementation of Local Economic Development, and will contribute to the elaboration of UCLG’s global agenda.
The exchange of information will allow participants to understand how the management of market systems according to the food cycle, which entails production, distribution and consumption, works in practice. The occasion will be a good opportunity to establish cooperation between cities, in particular with regard to South-South cooperation.
The host city of Chefchaouen is part of the UCLG Local Economic Development Working Group. Mohamed Sefiani, Mayor of Chefchaouen, also leads the UCLG Working Group on Intermediary Cities. He therefore represents the group within the global community, motivates the growth of the network and supervises documentation.
This event is organized in cooperation with the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI) and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
