UCLG will advocate to eradicate poverty and advance women’s empowerment before the United Nations

The United Nations will celebrate the 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) from 10 to 21 March 2014 in New York with the participation of the UCLG Standing Committee of Gender Equality and 14 members representing the Organization.

CSW is the principal UN global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and the advancement of women. This year’s priority theme will be tackling the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girlsAccess and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work”.
 
In light of the expertise of local governments, the UCLG Standing Committee on Gender Equality will transmit the important contribution of cities and regions to eradicate poverty and advance women’s empowerment, as well as advocating for a higher contribution from Local and Regional Governments to the Post-2015 development agenda.
